Sensing Earth's Highest Clouds from the Bottom of the World

I study polar mesospheric clouds – clouds that form in one of the most unique and puzzling environments found only in the polar summer. It has been proposed that PMCs are a potential early indicator of climate change. My research focuses on identifying the driving forces behind PMC changes using lidar observations from McMurdo, Antarctica.

A Month of Conferences 2: Awards!

Arunima took 2nd place in the CEDAR Student Poster Contest and was awarded the Best Student Oral Presentation at the 30th International Laser Radar Conference (ILRC30)! Her presentation and poster shared research on polar mesospheric clouds, studying their occurrence statistics and correlations with earth and space phenomena.

Hey hey hey! We got 1.03 W from RDL bare cavity alignment!

This week we opened up the RDL to understand its anatomy and got much more power out! All in all the laser gods were pleased! We took the dye jet pump apart, cleaned it up, and learned how to adjust the M1 mirror tilt, P1 focus, and M3 focus while optimizing the cavity at each adjustment.
